Barn Buddy Program

Who Are They?

Our barn cats fall into categories such as:

  • Cats with unsuitable litter box habits.

  • Social but feisty cats.

  • Shy or fearful cats preferring other animals.

  • Feral cats that avoid human interaction.

Note: We do not adopt cats suitable as household pets to barn homes.

How to Adopt

  1. Fill out the Barn Buddy Questionnaire.

  2. Our Adoption Counselors review your application.

  3. If needed, we will call for clarification.

  4. Upon approval, you are added to the Barn Buddy list.

  5. We call in list order when a cat is available.

  6. First to commit gets priority.

  7. Bring a carrier to the shelter at the scheduled time to pick up your cat.

  8. If you need to be removed from the list, let us know. To reapply, you must submit a new application.

FAQ’s

  • Without adopters, these cats have no other options. Barn cats help control rodent populations while you provide them a safe home.

  • Upon adoption, we guide you on acclimating your cat. All barn cats are neutered/spayed, ear tipped, FIV/FeLV tested when necessary, and vaccinated. Some may also be microchipped.

    • Shelter: A building with heating and cooling for extreme weather.

    • Food and Water: Daily provision of both.

    • Veterinary Care: Long-term as needed.

    • Secure Acclimation Space: An enclosure for the first few weeks.

  • Donation-based (recommended $30-45). This fee helps cover basic veterinary care.
