Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Whitman County Humane Society!
We have a few options for volunteering here. Our main programs are the General Volunteer program and our Dog Walking/ Enrichment program. Both are vital to the success of the shelter and the happiness of our animals.
General volunteers have a focus on cleaning/ working with the staff members on animal care. Throughout the day, general volunteers can be found cleaning kennels, doing dishes/ laundry, sweeping, mopping, and socializing our cats and exotics.
Dog Walking Enrichment Volunteers focus on the well-being of our dogs. They can be found taking the dogs on walks in the morning and doing fun/ engaging activities with them in the afternoons.
Machines, tools or other equipment may used by any volunteer. Cleaning and sanitizing equipment including but not limited to non-hazardous and hazardous detergents and disinfectants, scrub brushes, hoses, brooms and utility sinks. Potential exposure to infectious and zoonotic disease, injuries including but not limited to animal bites and scratches. Training is provided and procedures must always be followed to decrease these risks.
If you think the physical requirements for any of these tasks are not a good fit for you, please reach out to us and ask for our Training and Enrichment Coordinator. They would be happy to discuss options and other ways to help us by volunteering.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns about this application or about volunteering in general please call WCHS at 509-332-3422 or email us at shelter@whitmanpets.org. We are happy to discuss anything about the volunteer process with you.
