Rory
Hi, my name is Rory, and I came to the shelter way back in January 2008. I've been waiting for a new home for a long time! I am about 6-7 years old. I am very quiet and mellow, and I do quite well with other cats. As you can see, I have the most beautiful deep blue eyes! I've got a little bit of Siamese in me. There is nothing I like better than chilling in the sun, although I do enjoy a good chin rub! I am a little shy, but I've really come out of my shell since being at the shelter. Please come and visit me! Since I have been at the shelter for a long time, my adoption fee has been reduced to $43.12 after tax.
Vancouver
Meet Vancouver! Vancouver is a solid, handsome 4-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix who was unfortunately found chained to the shelter dumpster in May. Thankfully this experience didn’t seem to faze this big gentleman, and he has settled in to his kennel “home” just fine. He weighs in at about 85-90 lbs. He is quite affectionate with people and is very gentle with and around small children. Vancouver will stand squarely and perfectly still while you give him a big rub down, sticking his nose high in the air with contentment, and his pouty bottom lip begs for more when you stop. Vancouver does well with other calm, balanced dogs, whether submissive or dominant, but he does not enjoy being with high-energy or fearful dogs. Our wonderful WCHS staff are looking for a calm, confident leader for Vancouver who can show him his limits and truly enjoy this beautiful dog. If you are interested in or have more questions about Vancouver please contact shelter staff at (509)332-3422, shelter@whitmanpets.org or stop by Animal Haven at 1340 SE Old Moscow Road in Pullman.
Lucy and Thelma
Lucy and Thelma are both approximately 5 years old and came to Whitman County Humane Society in January 2008 with several other cats. They grew up with many, many other cats and not enough human interaction. As a result, they were extremely shy. With lots of TLC from our staff and volunteers, they have slowly overcome much of their apprehension, showing us what fantastic felines they really are. They are now more than ready for their forever homes.
Thelma is a Domestic Medium Hair lynx point Siamese mix who is much more than just a pretty face. Thelma is a very calm but curious kitty, constantly watching everything that is going on in the shelter, as well as observing the outdoors from her comfortable window perch. She is a bit wary of being picked up but is blossoming into a lap cat, kneading and purring as she relishes affection. Thelma is also excited and in love with anyone with a treat. She loves other cats, seems intrigued when she encounters a dog, and is altogether very gentle. She would do best in a calm, patient home, but she should continue to become more outgoing with time.
Lucy is a small, sweet Domestic Short Hair black and white cat with very striking markings. Lucy was once extremely nervous, but she has now taken to people quite well. She is reserved and does not typically seek out laps, but if placed on one, she is more than thrilled and will rub her cheeks on you with joy. She is very curious as well, letting out a soft “mew” of excitement from time to time. She is wonderful with the other cats and always greets and accepts new kitties she meets in our social cat room. Lucy has limited exposure to dogs at the shelter, but she seems to accept those she has encountered. Having been at the shelter for so long, Lucy might take a while to adjust to a new home, but she would flourish in any quiet, understanding environment. If you have questions about Lucy or Thelma please contact shelter staff at (509)332-3422, shelter@whitmanpets.org or stop by Animal Haven at 1340 SE Old Moscow Road in Pullman.
